After Exiting the Witnesses - Are you O.K. Not Knowing about the Future ?
by flipper init seems that religion has always been considered the opium of the people.
or at least many tend to gravitate towards religion to have or solidify some sort of future with a supreme being overlooking them hoping to have a reward either in heaven or in the jehovah's witnesses case - living forever in a " paradise earth ".
it seems that people can't just live day to day and let each day come to them with whatever happens.

Flipper: "SINIS- So what do you think is going to happen in the next 5 years in the future ? Care to share your insight ?"
SINIS:"Major, global economic collapse."
As Jehovah's Witnesses we did not know squat about the future. I still had no clue for a while after leaving. However, my curiosity on certain matters automatically led me to have a preview of the future and it's a ghastly one.
Still I'm happy to know what's going to be happening, no matter how depressing it is. It is going to happen anyways regardless of how ignorant or knowledgeable I am. If I where to be ignorant, then the future's unfolding will affect me even more.
I agree with SINIS about the major economic collapse but I'm not sure about the time frame. Maybe 5, probably 10 or more years. But that is not the main concern with the future. It is going to be a synergy-a perfect storm of:
- Economic collapse.
- Peak Oil.
- Massive crop failures due to Global Warming (Already started last year. Will keep happening decade by decade.)
- Apocalyptic and Theocratic religious movements (The seed is already firmly planted--"Dominionism")

The Christian Onslaught
by satinka in*sigh* i have been noticing lately there are a number of groups of "christians" signing up as members of this forum, with the obvious agenda of gaining converts for their own cult-like religions.
i have been wondering things like:.
hmmm...maybe i'll try ignoring them.. thank you simon for the space to vent.. satinka.

Godrulz, Post #430:
"Sarcasm, fat and ugly. I am overweight, not obese. Not Brad Pitt, but not ugly."
Godrulz, you are the one who first described yourself as fat and ugly. You brought it up with no one in any way prompting you. Satinka was merely making reference to YOUR self caricature.
As for the puppet Jesus image, my apologies for not providing an explanation for you and others as to the meaning of that image. It is actually a reference to your concept, and that of virtually every Christian, of Jesus. It is no different in intent than the caricatures called "American Jesus". The sarcasm is NOT directed at Jesus but at those who fantasize him in their image.
I actually told my Judicial Committee that God was a puppet they wore on their hands and the Bible a set of dentures that they popped in their mouths. The intent of that had nothing to do with my ideas of God or the Bible but rather was a description of how the Witnesses manipulated them as a servant and subservient tool to their own ugly souls.

Christian Hate Group ‘Repent Amarillo’ Terrorizes Texas Town, Harassing Gays, Liberals, And Other ‘Sinners’
An evangelical Christian hate group called “Repent Amarillo” is reportedly terrorizing the town of Amarillo, Texas. Repent fashions itself as a sort of militia and targets a wide range of community members they deem offensive to their theology: gays, liberal Christians, Muslims, environmentalists, breast cancer events that do not highlight abortion, Halloween, “spring break events,” and pornography shops. On its website, Repent has posted a “Warfare Map” of its enemies in town.
Calling Repent an “American Taliban,” blogger Charles Johnson notes that the group’s moniker “Army of God” is a rough translation of “Hezbollah.” Led by a man named David Grisham, a security guard at a nuclear-bomb facility called Pantex, Repent first gained media attention in Texas following a campaign to boycott Houston for electing a gay mayor. The group, which is associated with Raven Ministries, collaborates with other Christian groups as well as forced pregnancy advocacy associations like “Bound 4 Life.”
According to a new exposé by the Texas Observer, Repent set out earlier this year to destroy a discreet club of swingers they discovered in town. On New Years eve, the harassment began, with Repent members, almost exclusively young men, showing up in military fatigues and bullhorns, blaring Christian music at the swingers’ club building. The swingers, made up of “regulars” of middle aged, working class couples, were then stalked at every following visit to the club. Repent not only took video of each member, but obtained the swingers’ license plates and dug through their trash, informing neighbors and coworkers of what was once private. Watch a Texas Observer report:
Repent has struck with some success at many of its enemies within the town. A community theater attempted to open “Bent,” a play about the persecution of homosexuals during Nazi Germany. But the day before opening night, Repent members helped shut down the play by calling in fire marshals to complain about the theater’s permit. Staffers at a nature preserve were featured on local news defending themselves against Repent accusations that their site represents something related to witchcraft.
But grassroots opposition to Repent is also building. A group called “Angel Action” has mobilized against Repent, and blogs and Amarillo-based Facebook groups are springing up to protest Repent’s hate. (HT: LGF)

What say you Christians ???
by wobble init seems to me that most, if not all christians are really hung up on sin and redemption from sin and how naturally evil we all are.. my question, and observation is this : i had nothing to do with whatever you say adam and eve did wrong, i have always, throughout my life, treated whoever i came into contact with compassion, respect and love.. i have lived by the golden rule.. not many people, hand on heart, can say that, i can.. so, is your god going to judge me for the "sin" of some mythical forebears of mine ?
is he going to say that , because i did not believe in him, i willl be judged adversely, even though i lived by the precepts he is supposed to support ?.
all i can say is, if your god is like that, i refuse to worship or acknowledge him.. and i certainly do not want to get to know him.

"3. By some mysterious internal controls (do not interfere with free will) God is self-bound from acting."
The Founding Fathers were Deists. Deists believe in a God who created the Universe and then left it alone. While I have no knowledge of why or even whether Deists gave a reason for their God having little influence on Man's affairs, it seems to me that their philosophy matches with jgnat's.

"I do believe that all will be resurrected but not all will be resurrected to life."
See my post 2 posts above Bob's.
This is why the New Testament is every bit as demonic as the old. After all, why shouldn't the people listed below be eternally brutalized? That's why fundangelicals are a bunch of revolting hypocrites when they condemn Muslims but ignore their Old Testament. At least Islamic Law did not amputate a woman's hand simply because she grabbed the testicles of a man assaulting her husband.
Now, for a short list of the damned.
- Buddhists
- Hindus
- Zoroastrians
- Etc.
